Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state we enter into many times a day. For example, when we find ourselves daydreaming or driving on a familiar route. Entering into a hypnotic trance allows for easier communication with our subconscious mind.
Using hypnosis as a therapeutic tool allows to amplify and utilize your personal resources in a goal directed fashion. In trance we often intuitively understand meanings of dreams and symbols and unconscious learnings, less focused on thoughts and issues. Erickson called these "unconscious learnings".

One of the most common myths about hypnosis.... Many people are worried that they may do something silly, lose control or have beliefs imposed on them against their will, but if any suggestions conflict with the person's own values, they will not be accepted.
